This is called Preludes. It is a GI Joe diostory that is basically hitting the ground running. Everyone has some idea on characterization from the various sources. This is definitely a bastardization/hybrid/chimera of all those. I'm not married to any of them, but a good idea will be ran with.

The story begins years before with GI Joe team just assembled and discovered the existance of Cobra. The best Commando, Snake Eyes, who has taken time to study various martial arts in their countries of origin. He has been dispatched on a rare solo mission to an isolated tropical island where Cobra is believed to be training their troops into ninjas.

Trooper Lenny, explosives expert, has been sent on patrol because Storm Shadow thinks the plane that flew overhead last night was a GI Joe intrusion and that can only mean one thing: Snake Eyes is someplace on the island. Storm Shadow is sending out canidate troopers, like Lenny, out at random intervals and numbers hoping to uncover the Joe intruder.

And here is where the story truely begins.
